Global Forum on Migration and Development - Civil Society days
Monday 12 October 9:00 until 17:00
Istanbul, Turkey
Part of the series: Migrating out of Poverty
The 8th meeting of the Global Forum on Migration and Development is happening this week in Istanbul, Turkey. On Monday October 12th and Tuesday October 13th, before the government meetings, the Civil Society days will take place. They provide 'a platform for discussion among representatives of Civil Society, representatives of NGOs, migrant associations, diaspora organizations, and representatives of trade unions and the private sector that are associated with, or interested in migration and development issues.'
From the Migrating out of Poverty RPC, our Research Uptake Manager based at Sussex, Angela Haynes, will be attending along with Kellynn Wee from Asia Research Institute (ARI) in Singapore, Ansar Anas from Refugee and Migratory Movements Unit (RMMRU) in Bangladesh, and Kuda Vanyoro from the African Centre for Migration & Society (ACMS) in South Africa.
On Wednesday October 14th our representatives will provide an information stall for the Common Space, where they will publicise our current research findings and network with government representatives there to attend the following GFMD Government Meeting.

The 8th meeting will be held in Istanbul, Turkey on 14-16 October 2015. The overarching theme of the Turkish Chairmanship is “Strengthening Partnerships: Human Mobility for Sustainable Development.” This theme signals recognition that international migration cannot be addressed effectively by any one country alone, or by states without the cooperation of other stakeholders—including international organizations, civil society, the private sector and migrants themselves. It also emphasizes that mobility within the right policy framework is a positive factor for development.
